The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game released on the 2nd of December 2022, on platforms PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the game has been developed by developer Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. Created by the creator of the well-known survival horror series, Dead Space.
The game uses Unreal Engine 5 and features stunning visuals reported by most critics to be unleashing new levels of horrific visuals. The game is horrific that it has been banned in Japan for not complying with changes for it to be suitable to release by the rating board in Japan to the Japanese public.
The team behind The Callisto Protocol has agreed upon and went on to state the importance of gruesome gory visuals to haunt and fully immerse the player in this photo-realistic dark scary space prison setting, taking cues from its spiritual predecessor, Dead Space, and other survival horror games such as the Silent Hill series and Resident Evil.
The game originally began development set in the PUBG: Battlegrounds universe in 2019 and later became what it is today a separate game with its own original story and lore.
The new Sci-fi survival horror game The Callisto Protocol was found to have a major stuttering problem upon its release day, the game accumulated a barrage of negative steam reviews reporting this issue.
The game dropped its user rating by about 22% between the launch and post-launch patches. Since the patch has been applied to fix performance-related issues such as the most common issue in this game, Stuttering the rating has improved and is over 50% now.
According to the CEO of developer Striking Distance, Glen Schofield on Twitter he explained what had happened and why the game came with this performance bug: “A wrong file was patched”, he said. “Just freakin error by someone rushing.” He also referred to it as “a clerical error”, and said, “It’s launch day, this happens, unfortunately. This is Krafton’s 1st sp, console game so we’re basically doing everything ourselves like a startup. I apologize”.
It certainly checks out that there was a mistake in the launch day release configuration of the game because they fixed it almost immediately after launch when the problems were being reported.

The developers assure of more life improvement performance updates and content. They have also confirmed an upcoming free DLC that will include New Game Plus and Hard Mode, which will be available from 7th February.
Players will be able to get the Outer Way skin collection as the season pass for The Callisto Protocol. 2 other Bundles Contagion Bundle and Riot Bundle will release in March 2023 and Spring 2023.
It’s no secret Unreal engine-based recent games have had issues like stuttering in PC ports with bugs that affected shader compilation and asset loading.
