Disney+ and Hulu Get a Price Hike – But How Much?

Recently Disney announced a price hike for the Disney+ monthly subscription as the price of Disney+ has been increased from $7.99 /month to $10.99 /month.

From December 8th, the company will soon include a $7.99 /month ad-supported version of Disney+

Disney+ prices will be applicable from August 23, 2022

Along with this Disney is also raising the price of its Hulu subscription. The ad-free version will jump from $12.99 / month to $14.99, while the ad-supported version will cost $7.99 / month, up from $6.99.

Hulu price will be applicable from October 10th, 2022.

The reason for such a price hike is to cover the losses as Disney CEO Bob Chapek says

It has added 14.4 million customers to Disney Plus in the third quarter to reach a total of 152 million and 221 million across all its services; however, at the same time those increases have been tempered by large losses

Also according to Disney’s financials released today, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ have combined to lose $1.1 billion.

So, maybe the company is trying to adjust those losses by increasing subscription prices.
